The war of liberation in Mozambique was lead by a group called FRELIMO. This group was led by Eduardo Mandlane. The group was an avid supporter of peoples rights and freedoms so they quickly gained popularity among the people, especially the lower classes. The war of liberation lasted approximately two years in which FRELIMO managed to overthrow Portugal with a bit of wise thinking by Mandlane. But FRELIMO was more than a revolutionary activism group. It was also a Marxist group. Marxism is an economic system bent on eliminating the disparity between the social classes. This appealed to the newly formed Mozambique which needed a little guidance in the affairs of governments. This affiliation with Marxism caused strife with other countries, primarily the Untied States, because Marxism was extremely close to Communism, another economic system that completely differed from that of Capitalism. Mozambique's independence that fully declared on July 25, 1975, but interestingly. a complete constitution was not signed on until November of 1990.
