Flag of Mozambique
Mozambique's nation flag was adopted on May 1, 1983. Each color in the flag represents something different. The red triangle at the left is a symbol of Mozambique's struggle for independence. The green stripe at the top is a representation of the people's connection to the land. The black stripe is for the African continent and the yellow stripe represents the mineral wealth of the country (gold). The white stripes separating the colors are used to show peace. The yellow star found at the left is placed to symbolize the countries socialist beliefs. Within the star are a book, hoe, and rifle. The book is for knowledge and education, the hoe is a symbol of prosperity and agriculture, and the rifle shows how the people of Mozambique will fight for freedom. Interestingly, Mozambique's flag is the only one in the world to contain a rifle, as the model in the flag shows an AK47. Just a small bit of trivia.
